Lyft with their partner, Northwestern University, was selected as a finalist in the 2023 Edelman Award competition, bestowed by INFORMS.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lyft changed the algorithm that matches passengers and drivers. The new approach uses online reinforcement learning to constantly self-improve, allowing drivers to serve millions of additional rides each year. The innovation benefited drivers, passengers and the platform, and generated more than $30 million in incremental annual revenue.
