Closing the Racial Gap in CRC: Screening is Just the First Step
Media Coverage

Too many people in the United States are dying of colorectal cancer (CRC). The #2 cancer killer in the United States, it impacts Black Americans disproportionately. Compared to White adults, Black adults aged 50 and above get colon cancer at a rate that’s 23% higher than White adults and have a 31% higher risk of dying from the disease.1 These disparities persist despite progress in screening and treatment and are particularly frustrating because CRC is highly treatable when caught in early stages and even preventable when pre-cancers are identified and removed through screening. These differences in incidence and mortality persist even while we have made progress to make screening more accessible to all. A 2019 NIH study showed that a similar proportion of Black and White Americans are up to date with CRC screening2, a meaningful improvement since 20053. If screening access and uptake are now so similar, why do these disparities persist?

With Vaccine Limitations, Will COVID-19 Hamstring Biden?

With Vaccine Limitations, Will COVID-19 Hamstring Biden?

The Hill, January 19, 2021

Many are counting the hours until Inauguration Day, when Joe Biden becomes the nation’s 46th presidents. He inherits the country from a dysfunctional administration that will leave behind a spate of unimaginable carnage, more of which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Biden’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic will be front and center on his agenda. Unfortunately, it will take the first two years of his administration to gain traction in the battle. By that time, history suggests that Republicans will likely have gained control of both the House and the Senate, a common phenomenon in midterm elections. As such, COVID-19 will not only define Biden’s presidency, it may be its undoing.

As COVID-19 vaccine production ramps up, with millions of doses distributed into the nation’s immunization supply chain every week, state and county public health departments are working to immunize a growing cohort of the population. FedEx and UPS Deliver on COVID-19 Vaccine Shipments, But Mission Still Sees Slowdowns

Commercial Appeal, January 14, 2021

After months of preparation and scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers, FedEx and UPS’ COVID-19 vaccine distribution mission appears to be going as smoothly as the delivery giants assured it would. “Simply put, a global health crisis of this scale requires a network of our scale to address,” COO Raj Subramaniam said days after the company made its first delivery of Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine. “This is who we are and what we do.” The effort to vaccinate America has encountered slowdowns, however, after FedEx and UPS deliver the shipments to administration sites.
